Improving Learning through high quality teaching.

The purpose of the Eye for Learning is to aid learning by improving the quality of teaching. The Eye for Learning is:

  • Professional - Teachers can review, either on their own or with others, what they do, identifying their strengths along with the things they may want to improve upon.
  • Developmental - Teachers take control of their own CPD, improving their skills in a highly professional way, gathering feedback whenever and from whoever they choose
  • Focused on Learning - The different Eye for Learning Models allow teachers to focus not only on their learning, but on how their practice affects the way their pupils learn as well.
  • Flexible and Mobile - The Eye for Learning is compact and manageable, allowing the teacher to manipulate the technology to focus on any chosen aspect of their lesson
  • Helpful with Peer Review - Staff are able to share their videos with colleagues, reviewing their practice together, gathering feedback on the positives and negatives of their teaching styles.
  • A Whole School Tool - Anyone can use the Eye for Learning, giving all levels of staff the chance to review, and ultimately improve their practice. Teachers can remove their videos from the system as soon as they have fininshed recording, meaning no one else sees your video should you not want them to.

The different Eye for Learning Models

There are a number of ways in which the Eye for Learning can be used as a CPD tool for teachers:

Self-Review - a teacher identifies a focus and records their own lesson, watching it back in their own time, reviewing their own practice

Coaching and Mentoring - a teacher asks a colleague to help review the lesson, either as the lesson is going on or after the recording has taken place, receiving feedback from their colleague on the positives and negatives from their lesson.

Sharing Effective Practice - teachers within the school may wish to share exaxmples of effective teaching practice with one another. If a teacher has taken a recording of something they are particularly proud of or feel would be helpful to their colleagues, they could add the video to a bank of videos for all staff to use.
